I was recently chatting to a friend in Mauritius and we were discussing our daily life problems that we were facing. At a point in the conversation she said that “God gives us problem so that we remember HIM”. I found this a bit strange. Wanting someone to remember you and asking for help is a human emotion. Wanting by itself is a human emotion. So why does God wants us to remember HIM. Well the answer is simple God does not wants you to pray HIM or remember HIM. In Economics it’s said that Want is a Need. God does not need you to pray to HIM. The need is ours not HIS. HE is not loosing anything if you or I don’t remember HIM. For e.g. We drink water and breathe air. Do you think Water and Air’s existing is dependent on we drinking and breathing it. We all know the answer is NO.
Also I have come across that there are laws made by all religions for its followers which speak on the same lines that God will punish does who don’t worship HIM. Again associating a human emotion of want with God. Do you think God will not survive if he looses his followers? NO again. HIS existing is not dependant on us worshiping HIM or not. Why are we associating fear with our prayers? If we don’t pray God will punish us. Why is God some kind of King or Landlord or a Dictator who is standing at the top of Palace and wants to see his followers bowing down to HIM. What image have we created of God? A child from childhood is being repeatedly told not to do bad things or God will punish. Instead why can’t we teach kids to do good things? And is fear of God the only way to stop a Human being from doing wrong. If that was the case this world would had no criminals. The crime rate would had been much lower worldwide. But the fact is its not. This just proves that our way of thinking needs to change. You must be knowing of Mother Teressa. She was asked to once come for a Anti war rally. She said No. Her reply was simple instead of this call me for a peace rally and I will.
Also since I am talking about religion here would like to point to one more thing. People are being told that if you do good deeds on the final day of Judgment God will give you a place in Heaven / Jannat / Swarg. So it’s like telling a child if you study you will get a chocolate. Are we not bribing the child to do what we want him to do? Similarly are we not preaching through religious quotes that in a way God is bribing us to do good deeds? Well some learned friends of mine will say it’s an incentive. We all know the funda of incentive. If I am giving you an incentive to do something it’s because I am earning in the bargain also. Why will God want you to do good deeds? What’s HE getting in the bargain? The answer is simple. The minute you associate this kind of feelings of gaining and loosing with God the fact is you are not talking about God.
Some more religious scholars talk about that God wants us to do good deeds to prove to Satan that goodness always wins. Well why do God needs to prove something to Satan. HE is almighty. By drawing us towards bad things Satan wants to prove that he is powerful and can survive. And the fact is that we have helped HIM to survive.
There is a small story about why we should pray. Praying daily is like having water in a well with you. You were not able to reach the water immediately. You constantly and persistently kept digging until you had water. Now this water is always with you. Imagine you feeling thirsty and you realize that you have to dig a well to drink it. That’s like praying at the time when you are surrounded by problems and you start praying. The solution will come but it will take some time. Any if you are lucky you will come across a pipeline of water just with a little digging. But we all know the probability of we being lucky all the time.
So guys lets consider God in its true sense. When I am bowing down my head towards HIM in my prayers its not because of fear but its out of respect and gratitude towards HIM. HE is the Almighty, someone who is protecting me all the times. I believe in God for the goodness it brings in my life. Its my Hope, my faith. God is some whom I love and I decided to follow HIM because I love HIM not because I am scared of punishment.
